Checkup

I had a couple of minutes to poke around the blogsphere. I found a great site I wanted to share: Dr. Gwen is In. It's a pediatrician in Mass. that writes about current issues and news for parents. I like her format because a lot of times medical news is hard to come by as a parent if you don't have an "in" with the journals. I found the blog because I was trying to find a reasonably smart pediatric blog that wasn't sterile and boring (I think that once DH is practicing, I will have to be the self-appointed administrator). Anyway, check it out. She has a great link to some recent studies about Autism, which I found informative and fascinating.

Along a similar line Autism of genetic vs. environment, did any one see the NOVA special "Ghost in Your Genes?" It aired a while ago and I'm waiting for it to air again. SOO intriguing! I'm not a scientifically-minded person, but this show made me what to dig out one of DH's Genetics textbooks and begin brushing up. In a "science for dummies" nutshell, we all have our genetic code, but particular environmental factors turn certain genes on or off. The show discussed the possibility that Autism could be one of those genetic traits that has been turned on by our environment or environmental factors. The freakiest part of the show is that it highlighted some studies where they've proven that our ancestor's environments and choices are passing down certain genes to us now. It just kind of made me feel like we're all on the fast track to the end of the human race. Resistance is futile.
Okay, I've gone a bit freaky. I'll save my other thoughts for later. I don't want to put on the scary face and send you all packing ...

Oh good so now I can blame my Great Great Great Great Great Great Great whoever....(that was supposed to be funny).
Glad you're studying up on our main topic here at the P Household. Did not see the show. If you hear that it's coming on again, let me know.
And I can't wait until this world does come to an end and I know what the heck caused that stupid A word. Wouldn't change my J for anything just his looming cloud of autism.
And I'm glad that you have an open minded husband that will be a pediatrician. You know how I feel about that. Heaven knows we could all use more sympathetic pediatricians. Wish we lived closer to you so we could make him our Dr. :(
