On Being Human

One day to go before the big D-Day is here.  It's just another day in the week to me, other than being my mom's birthday ... she really wants a baby for her birthday.  Sorry, mom.  I think you'll be getting something else from me this year.  The infant has other plans.

The kids do have a mini-vaca from school right now.  Yesterday and today are days off.  We thought it would be a fun family time, you know, the calm before the storm.  But DH came home from his last shift with a nasty cold.  When this man gets a head cold, it's not pretty.  Swollen eyes, red, stuffy nose ... classic.  And I have little mercy when he's sick.  I wish I could baby him the way he probably wants to be babied, but I grew up with the notion that unless you dying, life goes on.

The two of us spent the day accusing the other of being cranky.  I'm like, "You're so cranky, go take a nap."  And then he'd say, "No you're the cranky one."  And I was like, "Yeah, don't you think a 9-month pregnant woman has the right to be cranky?"  And he'd say, "Well, I don't feel good ..."  Then he'd sniffle and I'd laugh at his sniffling.  "Are you laughing at me?" he'd ask.  And we went round and round like that.  We finally called a truce, said sorry and admitted that the both of us could spent the day throughly entrenched in our grumpiness.  It's good to be human, don't you think?

We did make an effort to get out and get the kids the Big Book of Toys from ToysRUs.  Ever since we brought those home, their little pointed heads have been bent in concentration over their brightly colored pages.  Checking, marking, circling their hearts' desires.  Miss A has compiled a truly artistic list, complete with pencil drawings and creative spellings.  Mr. M has gone for the more utilitarian approach and written a letter with some cutout illustrations.  Little C, well, he's just scribbled a bit and babbled on and on about Christmas and presents and Santa.   It's good to be a kid, don't you think?

Can you tell what either one of them want for Christmas?
I'm having a hard time deciphering too.

OK, I laughed out loud when I read about DH's cold. Weren't you the one that posted about the "man cold" last year? SO TRUE. Men are the biggest babies. I got a cold before we went to Utah and we were worried Caleb would get it. Dan said "Well at least it's not a bad one". Then Dan got it from me while we were in Utah. He changed his mind about it not being a bad one...LOL. It's because I'm not a big baby and so it doesn't bug me that bad. Quite funny these guys. Being 9 months prego definitely deserves more sympathy than a little ol' cold.

Caleb never got our colds and he was around sick kids and us for two weeks. YAY FOR BREASTFEEDING. I couldn't believe it.

So is that a picture of the amazing marble track on Big Bro M's list? They have that at costco- at least they did. For like $30. Last year I didn't buy it fast enough. Vacillated and then it was gone forever. Costco: thorn in my side. Good deals and great return policy- but too much pressure, especially during the holidays.

Sorry about DH. Total bummer. I was thinking about you today when I was wallowing in self pity on my couch. "poor me. M goes back to work tomorrow. I will have to take care of my one child and continue waddling around like a giant beached seal" Then I was rebuked: Julia has 3. THREE. And, apparently, a sick man. (Resisting the temptation of adding "useless man" in there- b/c he is so nice ordinarily). Good job. You can do it.

Congratulations on making it to your due date! Today is the big day since your floating baby has a big "0" by it! I'm so proud of you! You know, not many people are as talented and amazing as you at making it the whole way! If you were here I would definitly be throwing you a BIG party! WOW! (I'm trying to pump you up--maybe at least crack a little smile?!) That's like finishing a marathon and then going an extra 10K (ok let's hope it's just a 5K) just for the fun of it!! Actually, maybe a little run is just what you need...haha. Keep going baby!!!
