But this time around he brought up the notion himself about a week before Baby Honey came into the world. "What do you want for your mother's gift?" he asked sweetly, as if I had received 3 others in the past. A present for me? For birthing your child? It's about time.
I pondered my choice of gifts. The budget was not large. But I rolled the idea around in my head, savoring this chance to pick something out for myself. Something to enjoy. A new outfit, perhaps? Nah. They go out of style too quickly. A new pair of shoes? No. Some jewlery, maybe? Nope. And then I settled on it. Another way of carrying around my precious bundle: a wrap. I had love carrying Little C in the sling last time around. And I knew that would be toting this little guy until he casually told me that it was time to go to kindergarten and would I kindly let him out of the sling. That's how much I love babywearing. I have the capabilities of making my own ring slings, but the wraps eluded me. I couldn't find the right fabric and the cost of it put it near just buying one.
We picked up my new Moby Wrap after a long 20-minute drive through traffic with the whole tribe in tow. Chocolate or Red? It was a hard choice. I settled on the more subtle and less conspicuous Chocolate. When we arrive back at the casa, I hastily unwrapped my gift from its packaging and donned the 5 yards of fabric. I wrapped up Baby Honey and he immediately settled down for a long winter's nap. I love it. He loves it. A gift well received.
And now I'm left wondering why they don't hand these things out at the hospitals with every new birth. Here, they should say, take this home and wear your baby as much as possible. He'll be happier, less fussy and you will feel like your life here on earth has found its purpose. If I ever create a world, we'll have these in our hospitals. And ice cream will be free, but that's off subject.

I'd like to live in your world :)
Me too, me too!
Those Moby Wraps elude me however. All that wrapping is a bit too complicated for this mamma.
I got a Moby when Peyton was born (last March) and I have loved it. I can also use it with Owen (21 months) that is when he is corporating!.
would you post a pic of you and Honey in your wrap? please? :)
Maybe DH can introduce MrF to the world of birth gifts. What a great idea! You will have to give me a wrap tutorial soon.
Yea...no birth gifts here. Did you end up making your own sling? I borrowed a ring sling for Logan, and I wish it had padding on the top, and some leg holes for his legs to poke out while he slept. His acid reflux wouldn't allow him to curl up, so the sling never really worked for me.
Might I add - you looked fabulous with baby honey all wrapped up in your new burth present. If I ever have another kid, I might have to invest in one of those. That might be the only way to have a fourth kid and carry on.
BTW - I got the board before I left! I love it - thank you!
It was great seeing you and your family this weekend!
Love your posts. So cute. I am going to have to tell Dan about the baby gifts. Such a cute idea. I LOVE the moby wrap. I agree, they should hand them out. I wear it all the time. So cuddly.
