Saturday is a special day here in this house. Growing up Saturday was always reserved as Daddy's Day with the kids. After chores, my dad would take us out to do something fun ... bike rides, ice cream, a trip to the library. I always looked forward to Saturdays. Our little family has been no different. Since DH has been residency, any Saturday he has off we try to do something fun together. He often offers to take the kids so I can have a break, but I don't want to miss out on the fun and memories, so I almost always tag along. This Saturday he took us all to the Jelly Belly Factory. We've been a few times, and you'd think it would get old, but Little C's excitement through the whole day rubbed off on us all.
After eating handfuls of sugar, we decided to go out for ice cream at Fenton's. Nothing like balancing out the humors with sugar followed up by fat and milk. Yum-o!

Sunday is a day of rest, but not for me. Ever since switching to the 1 o'clock meeting time, Sunday has been a bit of a challenge for us. Little C misses his nap, which throws him into a tired belligerence all day. And Baby Honey is usually sleep deprived by that time, so he takes extra effort to get to eat and sleep. Put that all in public with Daddy on the stand, unable to help, and we've got ourselves a ripe one. Add onto that my bright idea to start potting training Little C this Sunday. Hmm. Can we smell disaster? The best part about the effort was hearing him run around the house saying, "I'm maked. Did you see my bum? I'm maked!"
It didn't get any better with dinner. This Sunday, at church, someone brought a bunch of citrus to share. So I grabbed me a couple of lemons with the idea of making lemon bars for dessert. Once we were home, I started on dinner: Chicken Broccoli Casserole and the lemon bars. After cooking for almost 2 hours, we all sat down to eat. The casserole? Sandy from the apparently extra dirty broccoli (despite rinsing and boiling in water, dirt still managed to ruin the dinner). The lemon bars? Burned. I was trying to overcome the dissappointment of dinner and hurry the treat, which ended up in me scalding the curd. Oh curd. The dinner ended up in the trash and Little C ended up in diapers (to be removed at the end of March during DH's vacation). Next time life gives me lemons, I think I'll try the lemonade instead.
Monday, fresh faced and ready to go, I quilted the pieced top that I made for Little C's big boy bed. I love how it turned out. It just needs binding and we'll be ready to switch him over (cross our fingers).
This morning, I made a baby hammock for Baby Honey. Ever since I saw the Amby bed when Little C was a babe, I've wanted to try one of these out. Instead of laying out $300, I went the cheaper chicken route and used what I had on hand. I borrowed my mom's ancient Johnny Jump-Up spring, whipped out my fabric and turned this baby out. I had so much fun doing it. And even though it seems the baby hates it (took his shortest nap ever at first attempt and woke up crying) I still think it was worth the effort. It distracted me all morning and left me in a mood good enough to finally write something.
What shall we do tomorrow?
P.S. Remember I said that Baby Honey looks familiar to me? Maybe it's because I've seen it all before, with a new face ...

Check it out! Look at Baby C's cheeks! Wow. I am jealous.
Also, the Ambi bed!? I would have made one too, after seeing this, but Sunday I opted for "time to get yourself to sleep" aka "cry it out, I know you are tired (I'm tired too)". Hands down, you're the better mom (sigh).
Sorry about your lemon bars. Nothing is more terrible than a sweet tooth wronged by a burned dessert on top of sleep deprivation. Can you eat chocolate yet? Or is baby honey still protesting?
What about a picture comparing Honey and M? I just want to see it next to each other ...
And look at you, all productive. I don't want to tell you how my morning was spent ...
So I just realized how obcene my comment seems... I was refering to little C's facial cheeks being rosy and rotund, not his hind cheeks in the first photo, yikes.
So I NEED need NeEd to know how you made those holiday treats- with the peanuts, carmel and chocolate. And fast. FAST. Please email when you have time.
You are so crafty! Does DH realize what a goldmine he struck when he got you? Seriously. And ahem, how do you even find time to sew? Let alone whip out a whole baby hammock in one morning?! I only have one kidling and I hardly have any time!
I LOVE the bum shot of little C! Hilarious!!!
