The Winner Is ...

House #1

Seriously, I was leaning toward the other two house almost the entire trip. But DH was firmly in favor of the Red Laundry House because of the neighbors he met and the feeling he had. And he's not a guy that usually speaks his mind when I've made mine clear. So when he spoke, I listened.  And agreed.  Then we saw that you all thought the same too.

Okay, prepare yourself for an onslaught of photos. I just have to tell you, describing this house tonight to my mom and the kids, I felt a little silly.  And putting these pictures up just makes me feel down right ridiculous.  Because it is so far over the top and fancy and we're, well, let's just say living on the "funny farm" kind of describes the state of our home and our style. Now that DH and I will actually own this house and its amenities, we are determined to be freaks about keeping it nice.  But I doubt that it will make us fancy in return.  We'll just continue being normal freaks who like to feed their kids Eggo waffles and walk around in bathrobes at night.

In the end, the builders were practically begging us to buy it, and we couldn't turn down their offer.  There's a lot of things that I won't show you, but I'll show you some of the favorites in the home.

Master Bath: the white granite counters and glass tiling details, the walk in shower with 2 heads, the pillars around the soaker tub, and the walk in closet with a built in bench in the middle (I laughed out loud at that ... I mean, who needs a bench in their closet? Beside Oprah and me.  DH says this will be called the Throne Room.)

Rooms: cutout shelving around windows and a window seat in each

Powder bath: pedestal sink and pull top toilet (to flush it, of course ... I had to test that just to make sure)

Lighting on the stairs for nighttime treks to mom and dad's room

Red front door:

Kitchen: tiling behind the stove and around the backsplash, slab granite (didn't get that, but here a pic of the type in the butler's pantry area) and huge island (not that either)

Family room: mantle and built ins

Bonus Room: huge ... probably for the boys bedroom

Laundry room: built ins and tiling on backsplash

I think the laundry room is one of my favorite rooms, beside the master bath and the kitchen.  The red cabinets just make me happy.  Oh!  And a major draw was the guest bedroom on the main floor, so that when our family and friends come to visit, they have a place of their own.  A home away from home.

I feel like we'll need to start calling this place the Fabulous Farm.  We'll dumb it down, obviously, just by living there and calling it home.

Julia, I love the house and we are so happy for you. You won't dumb it down, but the spirit of your family will make it a home and home that will welcome visitors for a long time to come. Good that it has a guest room. Just hope the children know the way there in the night to visit Grammy Gail and me.

Hey! I just looked at "my" comment on the last post and it showed up as Jess'. OOPS. I was the one who said don't get the master on the main floor. We did it for 8 years and it was tough.
I can see why you couldn't turn it down.
I'm super excited for you. All your dreams are coming true. YEAH!
I STILL would love to chat.

It's beautiful! I can't wait to come and visit. Honestly, I want to start planning right now. When are you moving in, again?

CONGRATULATIONS!!! You're a home owner!

Addendum to previous comment: Planning a visit, that is.

Julia, I said it last night and I'll say it again (do you know that convo lasted more than an hour? We are chatty) it is an absolutely fabulous home. I will use my new favorite phrase and say I la-la-la-love it. Seriously, once I pop out this baby and recover a bit, I'm there. I'm so horribly excited for you, I can barely contain it! Hooray! You have a fabulous home of your own! Did you ever think this day was coming when you were squishing 5 people into that townhome in Southern CA?

Julia- I looked at all the homes and I think you guys definitely made the right choice! Nice neighbors are priceless. I love the red door and the laundry room, and all the tile. I know you think it seems too fancy for you but looking at your pics I think it looks perfect for you guys! You are underestimating your fabulousness. I am so happy for you. It's nice to have all the hard work paying off, huh?? Yay!

Good pick! I'm sure you will absolutely love it. I have to echo Jen's sentiments and say that I am jealous as well...what a great find! ;)

*Side note...the bench in the closet is for sitting on and putting on your shoes -OR- for sitting on when the door is closed and you are hiding from your kids...your choice! :)

I am soooo thrilled for you, DH and family...the home looks wonderful and bottom line what takes place in your home is what is going to make it awesome...btw...you are going to love that big laundry room and your closet...especially when you have to do a "quick" clean (unexpected company)it will be great to throw/hide any clutter that might be around :)...
It will be a fun time making the home yours...Congratulations!

I love the reason why you chose #1. We got a bit of a fixer upper, that was pretty small, but has great neighbors that hang out all the time. And our back yard seemed tiny until the power company sent out crews to take out trees covering lines, and we now have some sun! I am sure you will love it.

I think that little stool in the master closet is for when you put yourself on time out. ;) (Does the top flip open- a secret stash for goodies?)

And where is the "create/craft" room? You deserve one. I am looking forward to some long distance giveaways.....

Congrats on a successful shopping trip! I am always pleased when I get what I am searching for. Usually that just means I find shoes that look nice AND fit.

didn't realize I was away from your blog for so long- but now I've got it on reader and I think I'm getting more organized by the minute
anyway
LOVE the house and am a bit envious!!!
Boise is at the top of my list of cities to move to after here (Boise, Portland, Seattle, and Denver). I am a sucker for built ins. I love them- which is surprising considering how much I love to rearrange furniture. You will fill that house to fabulously!!!
