From the Piglets

Entrepreneurs are born not made. If that is a truism, then I have birthed at least one (that I know of). Tonight Mr. M brought me a basket of books that he had plucked from his shelf upstairs.

Mr. M: Mom, I'm going to go sale these.

Me: To who?

Mr. M: The neighbors.

Me: And how much do you plan to ask for these used books?

Mr. M: (turning it over and looking at the back) It says $5.95 right here.

After a little discussion he decided on a $1 for paperback and $3 for hardback. I thought he would probably be selling tomorrow after school. But, nope. A minute later I glance out the window and he's heading bravely across the street to start knocking doors. Man, I have to hand it to that kid. If I were given the choice of doing hard labor indoors for pay (which I'm always telling him he can do) or knocking on doors, selling my wares, I choose the hard labor every day of the week, Sundays included. I'm no door-to-door salesman. But this kid. He's got a drive to make as much as possible with as little work as possible.

Miss A seems to be the next victim to fall to the never-ending cold. This morning she woke up with the intense headache that her two other brothers had, had earlier in the week.

Miss A: My head really hurts, Mom. Especially my eyes.

Me: It does?

Miss A: Yeah. I think I know why.

Me: Why?

Miss A: Because yesterday I did a lot of staring contests at school and won all of them.

Guess who's been without a binky for 2 days now? Yup. Little C. And he's doing great. He's very motivated to earn his Geotrax air set I bought to bribe him for that very purpose. Although, he seems to be making up for his lack of plastic oral stimulation by replacing it with food. I think he ate 7 meals today. Including the 9 p.m. curtain call meal of Mini-Wheats, at which he told us:

Little C: Mom, dad.

Us: Yes.

Little C: I'm the boss.

Yes, you are son. Yes, you are. Scary that he knows that.

And Honey, not to be outdone, has a little news of his own. He went to the doctor for the 9 month check. He was approximately 20 lbs. and 29 inches, which dropped him from the 95 percentile in height and weight to the 50th and 70th, respectively. I was a bit concerned, but the doctor didn't seem fazed. But he's happy as a clam. Eating lots of crackers and fruit (none of it mashed, thank you kindly). He loves to read books, particularly the touch and feel type. Still waking at least once a night, but we rarely visit him at that time anymore. Oh! And he's learned how to climb up and down the stairs on his own. Yippee. If he could talk, he would say, "I'm the boss too." And he is.

Julia, your children are so funny. I got a kick out of every single one of those stories. Especially Little C's. I'm glad he's making it without the binky.

Up and down the stairs?! Jealous. Em gets going up about one, then is distracted by the carpet (she loves to chew it, yuck).

Tell Max he can split the profits of some craigslist things I have if he lists all of them and sets up viewing appointments for me.

He's the master of stairs already? Mason is 15 months and can't get down them...course it would probably help if we had some. :)
