Random Bits

Every night DH reads Little C a bedtime story.  Last night, during preparations for bed, Little C came downstairs and hauled a massive volume upstairs to his room.  He clutched it lovingly to his chest throughout scripture and prayer.  And when it came time for stories he said, "I want to read this one" with an upward motion of his hands he tried to lift it.  His choice?  The phone book.

My little shadow, Honey, and I cleaned my room yesterday after all the children were off to school.  In the deep recesses of my closet, he unearthed from a pile of clothes a mini Tootsie Pop.  Frantic grunts ensued as he held it up to me to release the sugar from its plastic prison.  After taking the wrapper off, I got my treat.  The quietly whispered "Ta" as he turned with his prize and walked away.  I would give him sugar all day long just to hear that little "Ta."

Mean mommy that I am, I made  my two oldest children clean their rooms while I made dinner last night.  Mr. M was fairly cheerful in his compliance.  But Miss A was ticked off.  She stormed up to her room amid a torrid of complaints and shouting and turned her stereo full blast.  For a solid hour.  My tactic lately with her?  Ignore it.  So I did.  And I wondered to myself if anything was being accomplished up there or if she was just taking pleasure in the sounds of Camp Rock reverberating off her walls.  At the dinner call she came down happy and pleasant, bringing with her the longest note she as written me to this date:
"Dear mom I'v been working so hard I'm tired I finished my room, come see.  I'll stay here. I love you! I know you do too.  But I'm growing up So I like boys now.  I have a secret boyfriend.  I'll tell you if you ceep it a secret. (secret revealed in parathensis, but kept secret by me). He like puting his name that way. I do to. you know he wants chash me around. I loved it. I felt scard thau.  (Later in the note after details about school) I fell like I' am a teanacher.  but I'm not."

Boy, I'm sure glad one of us know that.  Because she's had me fooled.

I thought you said last night that there were pictures drawn into the note -- was there one of the secret boyfriend?

Those kids just make me laugh! Tell Little C that gram will be there soon and that I will read his favorite book to him from start to finish. (That deleted comment was from me. Sorry. My fingers aren't functioning yet this morning. Mom)
