So much has happened this summer, I feel a bit disappointed in myself that I didn't document it. Because deep down inside, I like this blog most for its record of my days for the past couple of years. Just the other day I was relating to a friend that some days Honey is like a little terriorist about the house. And then I remembered a post I did of Little C at about the same age, entitled "Mr. Trouble." And felt assured that it wasn't just Honey and his weird anti-establishment ways, but a phase that he'll likely grow out of.
Speaking of Honey and His Strangeness' ways, two nights ago we had a breakthrough. A breakthrough I tell you! I usually sit him up to eat with the family, with whatever he's eating that day which is usually a breakfast item, since breakfast is what he eat 90% of the time. And on his plate of waffles, he insisted that I put a meatball, some spaghetti sauce (though the noodles were quickly rejected) and some lettuce. He didn't actually eat any of it. Or touch it. But just the fact that he allowed it on his plate! I was thrilled. I'm thinking at this rate he'll be eating normally by about 2015.
First day of school took place this week. Like the rest of the summer, it was a blur. Before school started I actually finished a project on time! (I know the universe must be spinning in the opposite direction.) It was the kids' chore chart. I wanted it before school started so I that I wasn't repeating myself 20 times each morning: "Go brush your teeth." "Did you brush yet?" "Have you brushed?" "Let me smell your breath ..." and on and on. Success! I hung it Sunday night and Monday morning the kids started out it with. After getting all their tags done we snapped a few pictures and they were off. I barely snapped one of Mr. M across the field giving me the thumbs up. I guess they don't need dear old mom walking them to school anymore.
The only rough adjustment has been Honey, who trots after them each morning as they walk to meet friends at the walkway to school, calling out, "Nanna, Nanna, Nanna." He's been quite upset that she's left him every morning. Now we run through the people every morning. "Daddy. Work. Nanna. Kool. Maxish. Kool." He still refuses to say Little C's name. I think it's his small bit of revenge he has for emotional war fare C has waged against Honey.
And I? How am I, you ask? Just dandy. When everyone is at school and Honey is napping, I have a little free time for myself here at home. And what have a done? Taken naps of course. Ahhh. The life of a stay-at-home mom. It's rough. (really, it is ... that's why I need a nap).

It is rough. I completely agree. And I la-la-love the chore chart. I'd make one, but I think the kids would just rip the tags off them and the desired effect would be nill. How is it that Honey is that child to the far left? Your children are growing too fast. Tell them to slow down please, for their Aunt.
Love the chore chart. What are the 'tokens' and how do you use them? We have a chore chart, but my kids pretty much stopped doing it when I had another baby, and we haven't got back on track yet.
Also - instead of asking them if they've brushed their teeth like 30 times, do you just find yourself asking if they've checked their chore chart about 30 times instead? That's been my experience. I'm trying to figure out a way to avoid that. Have any suggestions?
Thank you - Thank you for another blog of you daily saga!! Your story lifts my spirits as I read it. Truly!! That's why I look at least twice a day to see if there is a new chapter. I can watch from this distance and see your family growing up. But when we go weeks without nary a word. . .those are sad times!
I looovvve reading your writings. You just have the knack.
Loves, G:ma
I love this post because just the other day I was telling Kimberly P. that I was crazy that day because I didn't get my nap and she was surprised that i take naps. I think it is crazy when people don't take naps. That is how I get through everyday. It is my survival tactic. So I loved reading that last line. I knew that I liked you for a reason! We are both smart!
Another "nanna" to bless the younger children . . . I hope the nickname sticks for her, too.
I also love the first picture, with Honey looking at everyone. Very youngest child - a little confused and trying to figure out what everyone else is doing so he/she can keep up.
I love you! So excited to see you in a couple weeks.
More explanation on the chore chart please...
Ahhhhhhh
I love back to school photos of all the families I have spent time with. It brings me back into reality. Like- Hello! Time is a-ticking here. Everyone is so much older, taller, smarter, cuter. I love it.
BTW that school looks nicer than my high school.
Have a little craft of my own in the works... with my newly discovered back-to-school time!! Can you say Ana-White. Uhhhh huuuhhhh.
Glad to see you again. S'been a while.
I absolutely loved it! The first day of school - I know how that goes. You're a great mom. I hope to do as well some day! Loves! Nana
