Miss A turned 6 today. It's hard to believe that she's 6, but at the same time I can't believe that she's only be in my life for 6 years. I think she had a good day. Or I should say a good 3 days.
In regular Olsen style, celebrations went all weekend and revolved around food. On Saturday, we had a family dinner chosen by the birthday girl (spaghetti), after which she opened her presents from her grandparents and aunts. Sunday, we gathered again, for another family dinner, this time capped off by a birthday cake. And today, was the actual day, a it seemed that I was cooking all day, making her favorite Frog Eye Salad (yes I passed on that little obsession).
Favorite memories of Miss A:
• how she would squeeze her eyes shut and smile big every time I told her to smile for the camera, as a toddler
• her very quick and painless birth ... why can't the boys have done the same?
• beloved Baby, who has been by her side these past 6 years
• the princess stage, which gratefully I did not stifle and let her bask in her regal glory from the age of 2 until last year ... and the well-loved costumes made by Grammie's hands of Belle, Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty
My wish for Miss A is that she can grow up confident and strong. Already she stands out because she stands heads above her friends. She's just beginning to notice that she's bigger than the other girls. But I hope, hope, hope that instead of being self conscious, she'll glory in it and realize how beautiful she is. I hope she can live out her dreams and that someday she'll have a daughter that will challenge her and love her just as she has me.

Happy Birthday to Miss A! I can't believe that she is 6. Oh, that little girl was and is so precious. I've loved that I have had the chance to live near to her for more than half of her life.
