In search ...

Today I am searching for something.  Actual, several somethings.  It's a bag of parts that complete my awesome IKEA child's gate.  After years of sitting unused, its services are needed again, pronto.  I searching because Little C is not taking naps since moving into his big boy bed.  So everyday is Sunday here, with fatigue coming out his ears by dinner time.

I figure if I can just trap his little body safely in one room, he might give into the nap monster and collapse.  In my not so distant past, I've resorted to holding the door and putting a child's door lock (you know those plastic guards that click onto the handles) to keep my exhausted children by their beds.  But both methods seem a little extreme to my more-matured mind, so I had the bright idea of a gate.  He can still open the door and scream bloody murder, but he can't come out.  Genius.

The only problem is that I can't find the necessary parts.  I know just what they are in (a plastic freezer bag) just not where.  I've looked in all the obvious places ... in the medicine cabinet, my makeup drawer, by the rat traps, in my clay pots.  You see, I'm organizationally challenged.  To me those kinds of places make sense to put something important.  I know for a fact that the bag of parts was in the medicine cabinet for at least two years.  But I vaguely remember coming across them and wondering, "What are those doing in there?!?  I need to put them in a place that I will remember where they are."  And I moved them.  Where?  I haven't the foggiest.

Last week I was in complete crisis mode because I couldn't find our old baby monitors.  Finally, after searching for 3 days we found one inside the complimentary hospital diaper bag (I think C put it there).  Just today, as I was looking for the parts, I found the other one ... in my makeup drawer.  I put that there, no doubt.  Just shows you how much I put on makeup!

I'm sure the parts will turn up eventually.  For now, I'll keep searching on my own ... in the tool chest, my sewing cabinet, in the art box ....

Those places make complete sense to me ... in fact, the medicine cabinet is always one of the first places I look when searching for something vital. Lane always shakes his head at me, but it makes sense. Put Little C to the task, I bet he finds it pronto. Who knows. Maybe he played with it last.

I'm all about the child lock on the inside of their door. Mostly because the door is a nice sound buffer after they discover they can't get out.

Good luck.

I bet little C threw them out, knowing what they would one day be used for.

I love the gate idea... We tried it on Kaden and it sort of worked. After he SCREAMED his brains out I had to decide if I would rather be woken up when he comes into our room or by the screams.... Which one is better of the two poisons? :)

Good luck with the search!

Ikea gate huh? Do you really like it? I am in the market for gate purchasing, e-mail me if you would be so kind and let me know if you would still purchase it, or if you would get something else.
