Order Up

Today I ate the last of the Frog Eye Salad we made yesterday for Sunday dinner and I thought my daughter would yell at me as a result.  She loves Frog Eye as much as I do.  But turns out I was wrong.  She didn't notice.  And I was relieved because I already felt like a toad for eating the last of it.

She and the rest of my kids have been insatiable this summer.  It doesn't matter what I throw at them, they are hungry for more.  In the figurative and literal senses.

Groceries have been consumed at record rates.  Swim team practices and competitions were cobbled up.  Library books devoured.  Swimming pool trips were a mere snack.  Popsicles sticks litter my yard like a birdhouse blown apart.

By the time 3 p.m. comes screeching by I feel like we've lived 5 days in just 1/2.  It's exhausting and a little intimidating.  Is this my future?  Will I survive my childrens' upcoming summers outside of a walker and a Jazzy fit with a basket?

Is this about the time some parents dreamed up week-long away from home camp?

HHoow ki-mo-sa-bi!! (spanish vowel sounds) This is what Tonto used to say on the Lone Ranger radio show. It came on in the evening just when it was time to do the dishes. So we listened intently and hardly knew we were working. Oh, in case you don't know, Tonto was his Indian sidekick.
HI Ho S-iill-ver Away! (Silver = horse).
When you said "How" you put your hand up, elbow bent, palm facing forward.
Just reminiscing a bit!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one. Our kids are on a feeding frenzy! I buy food for what I think will last a week and a half, but I'm off by three or four days. It's incredible.
