D is for

Earlier today a friend commented about the "D" in DH and how she didn't like that it can stand for "dumb."  I told her it's just a joke, one that I share with DH because, let's face it, every marriage has those moments where you feel like your spouse is dumb (even though it's probably you that's being an idiot).  But it got me thinking.  On a day like today, Father's Day, there are so many things that I could think of that the "D" could stand for other than dumb or dear.

"Devoted"  This man is an amazing husband and father.  I'm not being trite.  When he's home, he's playing with the kids on the floor, reading them books or helping with homework, if he's not already cleaning up the kitchen or picking up a room.  He never puts idle entertainment or his own satisfaction above the needs of his family.

"Determined"  I think this goes without saying.  Early on in our marriage, after DH decided to pursue medicine, he had a very discouraging counseling session with an advisor.  He told DH to find a different dream because there was no way that he was going to make it into the medical field.  But DH was undeterred.  He had the counselor draw up the plan that would give him the best chances and he went for it,  heart and soul.  There was a Plan A, B, and C in place just in case.  But once he had his eyes set on the goal, they never wavered.

"Diligent"  DH was was in a play where the main character would clasp his chest every time he hear the word "duty."  That is DH.  He his diligent in his duties.  Even if he's worked a 36 hour shift and can barely keep his eyes open, I'll come into the room and find him kneeling in prayer before he goes to sleep.  Every night he would lay out an outfit for the morning so that he could rise early, get ready quietly and be out the door before the sun was even up, just to make sure that he didn't wake us up or get to work late.

"Dreamy"  I don't have to explain this one.  Right?

"Dorky"  Putting aside the real meaning of the word, I chose this one because I couldn't think of another one that portrayed how funny and off the wall he can be.  He makes me laugh every day.  People think he's such a serious guy.   And though his more serious side has been developed these past 7 years, he's still a goof.

I hope it's clear to everyone how much I love this guy.  So while the side bar might say "dumb," it's never really that, because he is so dear to my heart.

Happy Father's Day, DH!

I don't think you could have described DH any better.
