This morning I made pancakes for the kids for breakfast, something that is surely worth blogging about because it is out of the ordinary for us AND I want the kids to remember that occasionally I was the fabulous, "got it together mom" I wish I always was.
After breakfast Mr. M found a water color picture and brought it to me.
"Is this SpongeBob?" he asked.
"Yes."
"Who did this?" he asked with a hint of disdain.
"Um, dad," I said trying to stifle a laugh.
He looked at the picture appraisingly and then said, "Well let's all take a moment to laugh at dad."
And then we all had a good hearty laugh.
I love that my older kids are really funny at times and they make me genuinely laugh and smile. Watching them get older is such a treat (most of the time)!
Last night we were discussing birthdays since Little C has the big number 5 coming up. The fifth birthday is one that merits a birthday party, in my eyes, so we'll be loco this Saturday. But the older kids were trying to calculate which would be their next BIG party birthday.
Miss A said, "When you're a girl and you turn 16 they call is Sweet 16 'cause you get a sweet party!"
To which Mr. M replied, "When I'm 16, I'm getting a car for my birthday!"
"You're right. You'll get a car for your 16th birthday," I said, seeing the shock and pleasure register in his face before I said, "For ONE night to take a date out. You can borrow the family van."
He wasn't as thrilled with that prospect.
